Magical Weekends: Sponsored by kicks in the ribs

Ever since baby has flipped to be head down, there are an awful lot of kicks near my ribs and I can only imagine how misplaced all my organs currently are. Even though I still don't look huge yet I can tell our little babe is becoming a GIANT because I pretty much feel pokes and earthquake like quakes throughout my entire torso. I think I will miss these baby movements when she is out in the world though, it's comforting knowing she is safely tucked away in my uterus all day long.

This weekend was another great Summer adventure. On Friday the girls in my lab threw me a surprise baby shower! So I stuffed my face with nachos, and a queso dip, and chicken wings and opened some very sweet presents and chatted with some of my very dear friends. It was such a nice surprise and I even got some offers for babysitting so it is possible Devin and I will get to see a movie again in our lives!

Saturday Devin and I started the morning at the Farmers Market where I got my favorite empanadas from my empanada man. They always hit the spot and are just so cheesy and delicious! I am glad that I only have the opportunity to eat them once a week because I might definitely abuse my empanada privileges if given the possibility. Then we walked around town to check out some bookstores, only my back was killing me, so I kept stopping at various benches. I did find a $5 orange shirt that had a jack o'lantern face on it though so the shopping was definitely worth it.

My parents arrived around 1:00 and we set out for lunch at this awesome new-ish restaurant called Ride. I got an open-faced salmon sandwich and of course sampled some of what everyone else had ordered and everything was very tasty! Then we ventured to Target to get some baby items (we are now the proud owners of a Diaper Genie!) and hit up a few grocery stores to get some stuff for dinner. Back at home it was time to work. One of the main reasons we had planned this visit was so that my parents could help with all the last minute things we were inevitably going to have to complete for baby's arrival. So my mom and I organized the very last of the baby clothes, socks, shoes, blankets, and burp cloths. This girl has more clothes than I do, so you should fully expect a million photos of her in various cute outfits during the first few months. Don't say I didn't warn you.

While my mom and I were finishing up organizing Devin whipped up a delicious taco salad dinner and we happily feasted on his hard work. Then before the night was through we made our way to one of our favorite local ice cream joints, Dane's Dairy, and ate some tasty ice cream cones out in the midst of the hot summer night. There is something so wonderful about eating an ice cream cone on a hot summer night, definitely one of my favorite things about our muggy midwest summers.

Sunday morning brought more work and a delicious breakfast scramble cooked up by Devin. With the help of my dad (and by help I mean he did it all) we finally got the pictures I've been working on hung on the nursery wall! Now just a few more finishing touches and the room will be completely ready to be inhabited by a baby. Trippy. Then we rounded out the afternoon with trips to TJ Maxx, Walmart, and Costco for good measure before my parents started their journey back to Illinois. Overall a very successful and productive weekend!

As much as we talk about where we will live next, and what our next adventure will have to offer I have to say right now we are very thankful that less than 3 hours away we have family that is more than willing to pop on over for the weekend to help us work through our to do list. There may be oceans and mountains out there waiting for us to explore them, but for now we are happily living this great plain life!
